5 Recommended Reddit Chrome Extensions

Are you a redditor?  I am.  It’s great to see the web sites recommended by other internet users, and it’s great to share what I found too.  But not every web site has a Reddit button.  In this article I’ll introduce some Chrome extensions that brings Reddit features to web sites no matter they have the submission button or not.  Besides, I also introduce two extensions that enhances the function of Reddit.

Reddit Companion

This is an official product by reddit.com.  It adds a submission bar in your Chrome browser so that you can share any web site you found.  You can also upvote and downvote a web site.  New messages are shown in this notification bar when they appear.

Boomerang: Send and Receive Emails at Scheduled Time

Every Monday I review web apps and share tips of productivity and work management. SUBSCRIBE to RSS feed or email updates to know more!

Today’s featured productivity web app is Boomerang.  It is not precisely a web app, but a browser add-on that modifies how you send and receive emails in GMail.  With it, you can schedule the delivery time of your emails, no matter sending and receiving.

Boomerang: Scheduled Email Delivery

You can download the browser extension of Boomerang from is official web site.  It supports Chrome and Firefox.  After installing it, you can find the logo of Boomerang next to your email address in Gmail’s screen.

Now, if you draft an email, you can find a new “Send Later” button to the right of “Send”.  You can choose to send out this email at your specified time.  You can also choose a pre-defined delay time such as 1, 2, or 4 hours.

Boomerang Send Later

On the other hand, in every received email there is a button to specify a time when you re-receive this email.  What does it mean by re-receiving an email?  Well, when the time comes the email will return to the Inbox and retain unread status.  It looks like a fresh email you just received.

Boomerang Receive Later

Have a look at this video for how it works:

Summary

How can you use Boomerang?  For sending, you can use it to schedule emails to be sent to others.  This is quite useful if you can only draft email when you are free but want to send it out later.  Besides, you can also create email reminders by sending emails to yourself (despite you can do so by using Google Calendar as well).

For receiving emails, this browser add-on can help you with avoiding information over-load.  Every day I receive over 50 emails but could only read about 20.  The other 30 emails are not useless, they are simply less urgent.  I tried to put them in folders but for most of the time they just stay there without me touching them.  By putting them again in the inbox, I have another chance of seeing them in front of me.

If you have similar email delivery needs as mine, Boomerang is a browser add-on you should try.

Integrating YouTube and Chrome to Google+

Looks like Google is continuously bringing new features to Google+.  We just reported about What’s Hot, Ripples and Creative Kit, now Google just announced some other small additions.

YouTube in Google+

You may now find a small YouTube tab on the right hand side of the Google+.  If you hover your mouse cursor on it, a sidebar bar would slide out for you search for YouTube videos.  It will bring up a new window showing video clips relevant to your search term.

YouTube in Google+

So what’s the intention behind this new feature?  Google said “we wanted to bring YouTube directly into Google+—as well as make it easier to watch and share your favorites“.  Yes, while you can watch the video directly in the new pop-up window, you can also +1 it.

Besides, now when somebody shares a video with you, apart from watching the video, you can also open a related playlist directly from the post.  And Google+ will start to add YouTube playlists in the search results of Google+ as well.

YouTube playlists in search in Google+

This may look strange in the first place but it’s understandable.  People are more attracted to graphics and video, particularly video.  I believe that the better integration of YouTube into Google+ is a move that Google makes to make users stay in Google+ and use it more.  So as the recent addition of the image editing function.  The more cool things people share, the more people use Google+.

New Google+ Extensions for Chrome

Google released two new extensions for Chrome for using Google+.  The first one is a +1 extension that lets you +1 any web page, no matter the page has a +1 button built-in or not.  The other one helps to you check Google+ notifications and enable Hangouts right from the extension.

[chrome extension] Google Related finds more relevant info when you browse

Google released a browser extension, Google Related, that brings you relevant information to you when you browse web pages.  It is available as a Chrome extension and Google Toolbar for Internet Explorer.

Google Related: Find Relevant Map, News, Images, Videos

Once installed, this extension seeks to find out information that you may be interested in when browsing web pages.  These data are shown on a buttom bar.  For example, when you read the web page of a restaurant, Google Related may show you the Google Map location, restaurant reviews and news.  I ran a trial on the White House official site.  You can find a white information bar at the bottom of the page.  Let’s have a closer look of it:
