Macbook Air + Chrome OS, the lightest notebook with the lightest OS, the dream has almost come true. I said “almost” because we having a working solution with Chromium OS. But who cares? Chromium is almost the same as Chrome OS!
Hexxeh, the man behind the Chromium OS daily build, given it a test. He loaded a Chromium OS onto his 11″ macbook air. Everything works except bluetooth, because Chromium OS does not support it. It takes around 22 secxonds to boot to the log-in screen. Battery use is slightly better than the stock Mac OS X.
Here are what you need to make this happen on your Macbook Air:
- Mentally prepared to erase everything on your notebook
- A 2GB USB stick
- The original Mac OS X install USB stick that came with the Macbook Air
- 30 minutes (more than enough for a quick supper while waiting for the transformation to happen)
- Internet connection (to download the Chromium OS image)
I don’t have a macbook air. Anyone given it a try? Is it smooth?
