The Google doodle of today (4 May 2012) is a pop street art styled logo in celebration of the 54th birthday of Keith Haring, the famous American pop artist. His works, which blends street art and pop culture, influenced many designers and modern art works.
Keith got public’s attention by his famous chalk paintings in the New York City Subway in the 1970′s. He was mentored by Andy Warhol and opened a shop in the SoHo area in 1989 where he sold merchandise with his signature paintings with cartoonish style and strong vivid colors. He had cross-over products with many brands and pop artistes.
He was diagnosed with AIDS in 1988, since then he became an activist who promoted the concept of safe sex and raised the public’s awareness of AIDS. He passed away in 1990 at the age of 31 due to AIDS related diseases, but as of today you could still find his works and many followers who paint in his style.
