Unzip compressed files on Chromebooks, finally!

Breaking news!  Unzipping function now appears on Chromebook with Chrome OS dev channel latest release.

Thank you +Cougar Abogado for this tip!  File unzip is for the first time available in Chrome OS via the latest dev build 0.14.811.15.  Just press Ctrl + Alt + T on your Chromebook and type in “experimental_storage enable”, press enter and this function would be enabled.

With this enabled, Chromebook is one step closer to a complete netbook running traditional operating system.  Being unable to unzip compressed files has been (in my opinion) one of the biggest barrier for ordinary computer users to use Chromebooks.  Once this feature arrives the stable release, every common Chromebook user could enjoy it.

Can’t wait to see it work on my Chromebook!  If you have one running dev mode, check it out now!

If you ever want to take some of the load off, I’d love to write some articles for your blog in exchange for a link back to mine. Please blast me an e-mail if interested. Regards!

  • So I downloaded this file: “adlsoft_uncompressor_3_3_last.exe” but of course, my Samsung Chromebook can’t run it because .exe file types aren’t supported… help! How can I unzip files? Thank you!
